Japan: May 4-5, 2017

  • Kyoto
  • Currency: Japanese Yen
  • Thursday 4/5:
    • Off to Kyoto!
    • We arrived at Kyoto station and were supposed to take 1 stop west to Nishi-oji Station, but ended up taking the special rapid train that went express, only stopping halfway to Osaka
    • Eventually got off at the first stop in the middle of nowhere, and got on a local train to Kyoto
    • Checked into Airbnb and ate at Sukiya fast food outlet in the evening, and again at supper time
    • Stayed home and rested
    • Limitless internet = Suits & Netflix
  • Friday 5/5:
    • Woke up early at 6:30am to go to Fushimi Inari, but Jermaine was fast asleep, so let him sleep in, and ended up waking up too late
    • Eating at Sukiya for the 3rd meal in a row for breakfast
    • Got on a bike and rode to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest (which took about 1 hour, riding alongside the river for some of it, and listening to Kendrick and Drake on the bike ride)
    • Walked to a beautiful summit in the park with a view of the river
    • Walked around and had lunch – coffee is so strong here
    • Rode a bike to a Raden-making class – absolutely incredible!
    • Walked around Arashiyama some more, had some delicious street food Takoyaki, then rode home on the other side of the river
    • The sun set halfway home, so we were riding next to farms next to the river along dirt roads, and eventually having to turn our phone lights on to see in the dark
    • Stopped by 7/11 on the way home to get food
    • Dinner, laundry, Suits, and sleep!
